I haven't much to show you today because I just wasn't feeling it, you know? I did go outside and stretch my legs and I think I can technically call it a walk because I was walking, with my legs, on the pavement, away from my house. I'll do better tomorrow, but I didn't want to just completely miss a day because then I would have failed in my self-imposed challenge. So a very short and fast walk around the block was done.
Since there's nothing much to see but some cars and empty roads and houses, I decided to pay attention to what my neighbours have in their front gardens, but I started with my own.
This is what I did to the buddleia that has been scratching my car so that it will no longer scratch my car ... until it comes back with a vengeance in about a week:
Take that, buddleia!
I will now show you the flowers and shrubs that I saw on my fast walk, but I can't name many of them because, although I can identify roughly 17 bird species, I know nothing about plants. Perhaps Auntie Trish can help us out here. I know my dad could, but I don't think he's the type to leave a comment on a blog.
Actually, I can name this one – I think it's lilac. I asked a neighbour one year and I think that was what he said it was. Anyway, it's pretty. And although it isn't jasmine, every time I see this plant, I get the Isley Brothers in my head, singing 'Summer Breeze' and that line, 'Blowin' through the jasmine in my miiiiiind'. It's because I used to think that this was what jasmine looked like.
I haven't the foggiest about this next one. Errr ... a green plant of some kind, with green buds.
Next we have another green plant, this time with orange flowers. Hahahaaaa! I think you are witnessing a person's descent into madness. Isn't this fun?!
This is a hedge. I'm not sure if it's one plant or two. Maybe the yellowish leaves are new growth and the green stuff is from last year. I want to say that this is a box hedge, but, again, I haven't a clue.
I had to walk down the middle of the road for a little bit because there were quite a few people about this evening – it was easier to just get out of the way than try to stay two metres apart on the pavement.
Aha! This is very definitely holly, and I believe we might call this a variegated species. What I don't know is why there are berries in April. Maybe this is normal and I've been brainwashed into thinking that holly berries only appear at Christmas.
This, clearly, is a conifer, and it belongs to my dad. That's all I have to say about that.
This one – I haven't a clue. No idea whatsoever. Some kind of white flower. It might well be a weed. I've got nothing else.
And finally, we have the grass verge in front of my house. Happily, it's not only mine that looks like this; as is the case everywhere, grass verges are running wild because the council workers who usually cut them are furloughed. This is not a complaint; I'm just stating a fact.
That really is it today. That's absolutely all you're getting. I'll make up for it tomorrow with something completely thrilling.
Until then, my witnesses.
