Freya's First Walk

You're reading walks out of order now because I just really wanted to post that Freya has had her first one. Yesterday was the first day she was allowed out. Actually, she's had five walks now because everyone wanted to have their turn. This did result in some shocking bitey behaviour from this normally delightful young lady who was clearly over-tired and over-stimulated, but that's okay. It was her first day properly outside and it was bound to be a bit bonkers. She's been delightful again since then.

There's only one picture here because this is all I took. This is her very first sniff of the world beyond our front garden. And this is as far as we got. I was expecting this, but it was still very funny. The grass verge in front of our house was her limit. I tried to encourage her to walk down to my dad's at the other end of the street, but she absolutely refused to move beyond our little patch. She sat down and looked at me like I'd ruined her life. 'How could you do this to me?' she said, accusingly. There were cars whizzing past, dogs barking a couple of streets away, and leaves blowing all over the place.

I was armed with treats, which had worked beautifully at getting her to walk on the lead in the house, but obviously meant nothing at all when there was so much to smell and see and hear outside. In the end, I had to pick her up to take her back inside. But that's okay.

The afternoon and evening walks were much more successful when there were people for her to chase and run with. As soon as we stepped out onto the street with Matthew, she knew what to do. He had to run to keep up with her as she ran to keep up with me. Hurrah! After that, it was easy. She clearly realised that she wasn't going to drop off the edge of the world if she ventured beyond our tiny bit of it. Very good.

And even better, on this morning's walk before school, she did her morning business outside! Awesome. Could've been a fluke, but we'll see.

Tune in tomorrow for the next instalment of the Freya show!
