Sorry if you're not dog people. The blog will be a bit dog spammy for a while until she's not the only thing I'm looking at when we're out walking. But for the time being, my eyes are on Freya most of the time while I teach her how to walk in a straight line and also try not to step on her when she changes direction and runs through my legs. We'll get there!
Miss Freya has had a lot of walks in her two days outside, and she proper loves it. I think being outside is already her favourite thing to do. Which is really good because it's mine as well. It's a bit tricky to get photos of anything while we're learning to walk properly, so it's mostly the back of Freya's head, like so:
Or a blurred shot of the young miss as she spots or hears something and turns her head, which she does a lot, obviously, because she's a puppy. She got a lot of attention this evening, but people are good at social distancing when they're out for their walk, so it was all perfectly fine. She met about eight people today, and three dogs. The most awesome dog was a Dobermann that scared the life out of her – well, it would, it was enormous! She'll never be as big as that. The smallest dog she met today was some kind of teeny terrier puppy. You know that dog that doesn't look like anything and can only be described as a dog? They usually make Disney films about them, where a boy who has no friends adopts a stray and they become best friends and the dog ends up rescuing the boy's dad from a burning building or something. That type of dog.
No such ambiguity with Freya. Everyone we've met has guessed that she's a German shepherd. One man asked if she was an Alsatian, which I thought was quite nice because most people don't call them that anymore. But, of course, that's exactly what she is.
This is another view of Freya that I see a lot when walking. She's quickly learned that I have treats about my person, and if she sits nicely, she'll get one. This has already been great for getting her to sit before we cross the road. But it does mean that sometimes she just stops walking and sits down just because she wants a treat. Cheeky madam.
Also captured on video:
Freya managed a little further today than yesterday. Instead of just the small block, she managed the medium block with no real difficulty. She was knackered when we got home, but then, she had probably walked twice as far as me, what with running around me in circles and also chasing every leaf. Also, the way home was a lot longer than the way out because of the leaf drifts that she couldn't resist playing in. Oh, to be a puppy!
Fun times! Tomorrow, perhaps we'll jump in the car and go somewhere else. I'd like Freya to meet some more dogs, so perhaps the prom will be a good place to walk. The vet said the prom is fine, as long as we don't go onto the beach.
Until tomorrow, champs.
