We've just been to the prom for a quick jaunt. We're not going again at this time of night on a Saturday because it was far too busy and there were drunk people. I don't think we were in any danger whatsoever because the drunk people were just having a nice time, but atmospheres can change in seconds just at the moment and I'd rather just be safe, especially when I have Matthew with me.
Anyway, we still had a walk because I knew we were safe really. I noticed this brilliant triangular-shaped window that I've never spotted before. I'd love a window like that. I'd quite like a house like that, actually, one of those brilliant Victorian terraces that have those wonderful high ceilings and four floors and giant kitchens.
What is it about amusement arcades that kids love? I don't get them. I don't think I've ever got them. Noisy, loud, headachey places. No one ever wins and they're not fun. I do like the rainbow lights on this one though.
Rainbow lights and Telly Tubby Hill. Morecambe looks even stranger through this iPhone camera, which sucks in light and colour like a black hole and spews it out again like a Global Hypercolour festival. Make of that insane mixed metaphor what you will!
I whinged here about this ridiculous phone camera because all I wanted was a nice and truthful picture of the very dark sky with just a small hint of red in it, and what I got was this. It makes no sense to me.
This is called the clock tower, for obvious reasons. A famous meeting place for anyone who wants to meet up with someone who doesn't know Morecambe very well. 'Do you know the clock tower?' 'Oh yeah, I know the clock tower.' 'I'll meet you there.' 'Right, nice one.'
This is Queen Street, which is absolutely the perfect location for a gay bar, that lovely white building on the left. The shame of it for me is that I never actually went there before it closed, and I really wish I had. I did work at the chippie opposite though, but only for about two weeks until I got a better job in a hotel restaurant. Good times.
I faffed about with the camera settings and managed to turn off the light-sucking thing, but this was the result. Darker than the blackest pits of hell and still not an accurate representation of the view I could see my with eyeballs.
I gave up and asked Matthew to remind me to bring my old phone for night photos next time. I suppose the prom looks nice, even though it didn't look like this at all.
What it did look like was amazing! Did anyone else see something that looked like lightning but with no thunder this evening? I supposed it must have been lasers of some kind, but it was nearly midnight and no clubs or pubs were open, obviously, and the lights didn't really seem to behave like lasers. They behaved like lightning, which led to the only possible conclusion – Thor was about and Mjölnir was doing its thing.
If you don't know what that means, let me show you:
One never needs an excuse for adding a picture of Thor, but clearly, anyway, this was what we saw going on in the skies above Morecambe this evening. Two drunk people asked if we could see the lights and we had a jolly two minutes speculating as to what they might be. I didn't try out my Thor theory on them because they didn't seem to the type to believe in Norse gods, or even the type to watch Marvel films.
Anyway, we'd committed to walking to Baywatch Tower, so we carried on a bit and the phone redeemed itself by taking this nice picture. Like a goddam Turner painting!
Baywatch Tower. You know who lives near here, and he never disappoints ...
This guy, yeah. He was quite tired today, I think, so he was having a well-earned rest.
We didn't hang around much longer as it was very late, but we did wonder what all the weirdness was about when we noticed that this building had been lit up all blue but there didn't seem to be a light source. What the hell is going on this evening? Eh? Aliens? Something weird, I tell you.
Until tomorrow, when James might come for another walk with me because he's quite keen to wear outside clothes again, even if just for one day.
