Twice Round the Block

Welp, today was the closest I came so far to not taking a walk. Two reasons: my feet are still sore, and it was my birthday. Having a birthday is not a particular reason to not take a walk, but I decided that what I wanted for my present was a clean and tidy living space. So that’s what we did today — I got the boys to help me rearrange the living room and clean the kitchen. We couldn’t have a birthday party, so this was clearly the next best thing. Consequently, I was quite worn out when I remembered that I needed to go outside.

But it’s become a thing now, my walk, so I couldn’t just not do it. It takes ten minutes to walk round our block, so I decided to just do that thrice. (I love the word ‘thrice’ — it’s very archaic, but I use it loads.) I only made it round twice before I gave up. And after the first circuit, I even stopped for tea because Matthew and Thomas brought it out to me.

This is our crumbling front wall and two cups of tea.

While we were drinking tea and messing about, our fairy lights came on. Do you like my brambles? It’s very handy having them there because it means I have no need of curtains. They also make me feel as though I live in an enchanted castle, under a spell that can only be broken by love’s first bottle of weed killer. Or perhaps love’s first chainsaw.

Thomas decided to let off a bit of steam by seeing how high he could jump from our gatepost. Turns out it was this high, which we think is about six feet. He did this roughly another 27 times while I took my second turn around the block.

Matthew wanted me to show you this. He made tea today, which was a spanking gorgeous curry. He made his own paste, and it looked very pretty before he mixed it all together. Damn, that boy can cook!

Oh, I almost forgot. Right at the end of my tiny walk, I was almost hit in the head by a goldfinch that flew out of a bush as I was going by. It happened as I was watching another goldfinch, thinking, ‘is that a goldfinch?’

You know what that means — https://www.british-birdsongs.uk/goldfinch/

Proper walk tomorrow. And Thomas said he wants to come along as well.

Until then, cabin fever partners.
