Aha! Here I am! I bet you'd thought I'd finally given up in true Linda style, didn't you? The way I usually do? Well, I haven't – still haven't missed a day's walk since we started. I just got a bit behind with the blog because my brain had run out of words. But I'm back now, and you'll have three entries today to catch up. Aren't you pleased? I knew you would be.
So, some days, I look at Matthew and I say, ‘dude, do you think if I have a day off my walk, I’ve failed?’ And Matthew looks back at me, resisting the temptation to shake his head disdainfully, and says, ‘well, it’s up to you, isn’t it?’ So I get my trainers on and we walk. Such was today. (Although, let's be honest, Matthew's got a bit of a cheek because he's missed about eight walks and, by rights, being only 12, he should be a lot fitter than me!)
Tired of street walking, I thought a quick trot down to the river might be quite refreshing. Also, we're quite enjoying the little thrill of scaring the bejeezus out of ourselves by imagining zombies and such. This little bit of dark path down to the river is awesome, and I make sure to take my hood down so I can see all around us easily, just in case there are monsters.
Matthew asked for a picture of the cycle track sign, as he wasn't sure if it was sexist or completely inclusive. When he said there were no girls on the picture, I asked how he knew, and then he realised the question was problematic because girls don't have to wear skirts or have long hair. That took us on to a discussion about gender fluidity and I got a little bit lost, but Matthew brought me up to speed, so that was good.
Scandinavian houses were looking ... exactly the same as they always do. Lovely. I'm quite keen to get over that side of the river for a walk, but it will have to be a weekend because it's quite a long one. You'll see. But look, the tide was in today, which you haven't seen so far – actually going out, so probably just turned.
I was quite drowsy today, for some inexplicable reason, but this is where I'm learning the value of the walk because it does wake me up. It's definitely refreshing. When we left the house, I expected us to be out for possibly ten minutes. But once you get to the river, you don't really want to go straight home because it's so nice to be out. And, of course, we're spending about 23 hours a day in the house now, aren't we all?
So we stretched it out a little bit and wandered off down the cycle track, and then even did a hill, look:
It was only a half-hour walk in the end anyway, but still better than the ten minutes I expected. As always, glad we did it.
Until tomorrow, which is also today because I am catch-up writing, but it doesn't feel right if I don't sign off like this,
WQ
P.S. Did I ever mention why my handle is WQ? Warrior Queen, you see, was supposed to be my gamer name when I got my first PS4 a few years ago, and I was going to be well into gaming and get really good. Predictably, I never got a look in because I have three sons, so I never got good at gaming or actually even played any games. But I liked the name, so I kept it and have used it in many places online. That is all.
